Miami International Airport (MIA) was first opened in 1928 under the name of Pan American Field. MIA is now a public airport but it began as the main base of Pan American Airways Corporation. After the airport acquired many other new airlines, the corporation shifted to Miami International Airport. Before all the transaction, the airport had to be purchased by the city of Miami and joined with other airport near the area. Miami International Airport expanded until through 1951. The location of MIA is eight miles North West of central business district of Miami. It is between the cities of Miami, Hialeah, Doral, and Miami Springs, the village of Virginia Gardens, and the unincorporated community of Fontainebleau.
