White Party of Miami
World's biggest fund raising
The White Party of Miami, Florida is an annual festive event celebrated in order to gather funds for research in HIV and AIDS. During the party, attendees and participants are asked to follow the “all white” clothing theme. This color concept was promoted by co-founder Frank Wager. Wager notes that the color white represents purity, simplicity, and beauty.
In 1985, the event started as a small fundraising party initiated by the Health Crisis Network. Through the party, the coordinators were able to gather as much as $ 16,000. As years went by, the merrymaking included more and more events such as "The Victory Party" and "Muscle Beach".
In 1998, the party successfully raised more than $2 million as HCN worked with the Community Research Initiative. As of now, the Miami party is deemed as the world’s biggest fundraising event that’s dedicated for improving research and development for managing and treating HIV/AIDS.
In the recent years, the White Party in Miami is managed by Today Care Resource. The group works with more than a hundred employees from Dade and Broward County. They provide a wide selection of services – medical, counseling, testing, psychosocial, and more. As the event attracts more participants to its set of fun filled activities, it has also gained much media attention from many publishing and broadcasting companies - Vanity Fair, Glamour magazine, The New York Times, Bravo, The Travel Channel, BBC, Playboy Channel, and others.
